Map of the Canal in T1
The Canal is a winding manmade channel which carries water from a tiny reservoir in the grounds of Ramirez Manor through New Market and the surrounding area. It is not used for transport and often passes through gates and tunnels on its way down, seemingly becoming an extension of The City's sewers. The peculiar construction suggests that it may be a type of Turpan water system or power canal.
History[]
Keeper maps made previous to the Old Quarter catastrophy show that the canal was built on the site of a highly branched natural river.[1]
By the time of The Dark Project/Thief Gold, the river has not only been built over to the north, but also has changed directions in intervening years, and has been modified through human intervention. A secret passage at the southernmost accessible area leads down to The Lost City.[2]
