Garrettloader is a Thief Fan Mission Loader aimed as an alternative to the outdated DarkLoader (DarkLoader can not handle Thief 3 Fan Missions), created by Richard Potter (potterr on TTLG).

Game SupportEdit

GarrettLoader supports:

  • Thief 1
  • Thief Gold
  • Thief 2
  • Thief DS
  • System Shock 2
  • The Dark Mod (including standard Doom 3 Maps).

There is also support (in a basic way) for:

  • Thief 2X (a full 13 mission Unofficial Sequel to Thief 2)
  • Dark Metal (a heavily re-engineered version of Thief 2 and DromEd, Dark Metal allows Thief 1 FMs to be played in Thief 2, it also has masses of new objects, characters, AI intelligence and game systems).

Also since version 1.31, GarrettLoader has support for hundreds of other games via reference files, you can try it with the supplied reference files for Half Life 1 and Half Life 2.[1]

Pre-InstallationEdit

Install Game patches:

Thief:_The_Dark_Project/Technical_Support#Patch

Thief_Gold/Technical_Support#Patch

Thief_II:_The_Metal_Age/Technical_Support#Patch

Thief:_Deadly_Shadows/Technical_Support#Patch

InstallationEdit

The self-extracting installation file included with Garrettloader will walk you through the installation process.

To easiest way to use FMs after downloading is to create a separate directory on your PC and save them there. In the setup portion of Garrettloader, you can specify the exact location where you are storing your FMs.

TroubleshootingEdit

Manual clean up of filesEdit

Occasionally you will find that you'll start a new mission and run into problems. For instance, you might load one mission and when you start to play you'll see something that indicates you're going to be playing a mission other than the one you selected or you might experience crashes.

Sometimes GarrettLoader fails to cleanup the Thief folder while uninstalling a FM, so you might have to do it manually:

Install the original game missions and delete any remains of the following folders in your main Thief folder:

  • Pal
  • Bitmap
  • Books
  • Fam
  • Intrface
  • Mesh
  • Obj

but don't delete:

  • movies
  • crfs
  • res

Next, reinstall the mission you want to play and it should load properly.
