For the edible spice, see Spice.

The Rare Spice comes in the shape of small red bags smuggled into The City by Captain Davidson at Rampone Dockside Shipping. It is a valuable good on the black market,[1] especially during The Metal Age when the Mechanists' pollution is killing off the plant life, and the citizens can no longer grow their own.[2] Osterlind, who worked together with Davidson, had difficulty with the smuggling since the Mechanists took over building B.[3]

Substance Clarification[]

Judging by it being smuggled, and appearing in distinct red bags unlike the regular spice, the rare spice is meant to be a narcotic. This is further implied by a Security Code Lock in Captain Davidson's Ship (the "420 counter" in DromEd) that tracks how many bags have been acquired. When all bags have been found it displays "420" which is a reference to drug culture, specifically cannabis.

The City Watch also has a division specialized in dealing with illegal drugs.

Notes[]

Behind the Scenes[]

  • The use of the term "spice" may be a reference to melange; a fictional narcotic central to the plot of Dune.
