Game Launch PreparationsEdit

Hey Sxerks,

With a new Thief game right around the corner, we thought it would be a good time to update the overall look and navigability of the Wikia. Over the course of the next few weeks, I'm going to be making some changes here and there -- if there's anything I do that you don't like, please let me know or feel free to revert the changes yourselves. If you have any ideas about content or organization in the weeks leading up to the launch, I'd love to hear them and help give you whatever you need.

Thanks! Look forward to working with you.

Best,
Mhadick (talk) 22:57, January 14, 2014 (UTC)

Keepers' Chapel Issues Edit

Because TheCircle has been having server issues of late, the Keepers' Chapel is not accessible through ordinary means (we can still use the wayback, though). Would it be possible/permissible to create a backup of everything in there? I presume that the wiki would have more stability than an independent site. Fish Preferred (talk) 04:38, January 17, 2014 (UTC)

I'll send a PM on the ttlg to see if it is ok.--Sxerks (talk) 06:07, January 17, 2014 (UTC)

Ok, fett(dave johnson) just got back to me via pm and said it was ok. So now it is a matter of figuring out where to put it and what the page names need to be.--Sxerks (talk) 15:20, February 5, 2014 (UTC)

Should I start categorizing the images by location, or would that encourage people to use them in a way that does not qualify as fair use under US copyright law? --Fish Preferred (talk) 04:39, February 14, 2014 (UTC)
hmmm, I guess since they are part of the guide, probably should just leave them. They are all currently protected as well so no one should be able to upload a new version and mess up the guide.--Sxerks (talk) 06:05, February 14, 2014 (UTC)
Maybe I could subcategorize them (Guide Baffords Images, Guide Cragscleft Images, etc.) as they are hard to sift through all together. --Fish Preferred (talk) 15:38, February 14, 2014 (UTC)
That would be ok, but the cats would probably be (Keepers Chapel XXXXXX Images) where XXXXXX is the mission.--Sxerks (talk) 15:45, February 14, 2014 (UTC)
Would it be improper to give them the regular image categories, on top of Keepers Chapel XXXXXX Images? Big McLargeHuge (talk) 23:47, February 14, 2014 (UTC)
No reason to over categorize them, they are all still under category:images.--Sxerks (talk) 17:09, February 15, 2014 (UTC)
Not overcategorizing, just making sure they are categorized enough to where they could be found easily for use in an article outside of the walkthroughs. Big McLargeHuge (talk) 04:40, February 16, 2014 (UTC)
I think we would need special permission for that. Unless of course he already authorized the use of his images for other purposes. --Fish Preferred (talk) 05:51, February 16, 2014 (UTC)
well what takes precedence? the fact they are used in fair use from the game, or that they were taken from the game to use in the guide? Not that I think the author would take issue, but what malicious things could we possibly do? Big McLargeHuge (talk) 00:38, February 17, 2014 (UTC)
It always helps to be careful about copywrite issues. Anyhow, since he's given the OK on this project, it seems unlikely for him to insist that they not be used anywhere else. I just think we should err on the side of caution. --Fish Preferred (talk) 05:13, February 17, 2014 (UTC)
These images are small with writing on them and not going to be used in other articles, also no one is going to be searching through a category to find them. They are easy enough to find in the guide.--Sxerks (talk) 17:34, February 17, 2014 (UTC)
Oh, they have writing on them? Okay, then that makes sense. Big McLargeHuge (talk) 19:34, February 17, 2014 (UTC)

The Keepers' Chapel section is now finished. Should the pages be locked/protected now, or should we see if fett wants any changes first? --Fish Preferred (talk) 22:37, April 1, 2014 (UTC)

I'll run the bot to protect them all like I did the images. I doubt he'll have any input, but I'll let him know(or you can, you have an account there now), and we can change anything if necessary later.--Sxerks (talk) 22:47, April 1, 2014 (UTC)

main page change Edit

I was thinking back to my daily calendar idea, still on hiatus I guess, and thought that we could remove the site news blog ( for general main page sprucing up, besides the calendar (wip)), and simply change 'current contest' to 'thief news' or what have you. Big McLargeHuge (talk) 23:45, February 14, 2014 (UTC)

The blog can be replaced with the calendar. there really isn't any thief news so the contest can stay as is.--Sxerks (talk) 17:09, February 15, 2014 (UTC)

Edit warEdit

Garrett and mission objectives calling it a river, and Fishpreferred wanting to call it a 'canal' removing the citations of it being called a river. http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Talk:Canal,_New_MarketBaggins (talk) 17:10, March 19, 2014 (UTC)

trying to make .gif files Edit

Is there a way to make fraps take videos in .gif format? Or, if not, can you suggest a trustworthy avi to gif converter? Fish Preferred (talk) 15:52, April 10, 2014 (UTC)

A while ago on another wiki one person used "Beneton Movie Gif" with good results. Other than that I really don't know.--Sxerks (talk) 16:47, April 10, 2014 (UTC)

Stealth Game Guided TourEdit

Hey Sxerks, I'm Doug from Wikia's Community Development Team! I'm stopping by to ask you if you'd be interested in participating in a Wikia Guided Tour about Stealth video games! Guided Tours are large written posts that describe and inform users about a certain genre/theme. We choose 3 or so admins of various communities to provide their opinion about the genre as a whole, what makes it great, and why they are fans. These admins then choose a small handful of 'must-play' games of the genre so new players can check out the best of the best.

If you're curious about what the Guided Tour looks like, check out some previous ones Zombies, Horror Games, and Space Opera.

If you'd be interested in being featured in this, please let me know! We are planning for the Tour to go live at the end of the month. Don't hesitate to ask any questions if you have them! Thanks : > TheBlueRogue @Wikia •(profile)•(talk)•(doug@wikia-inc.com) 18:45, June 17, 2014 (UTC)

Hey Sxerks, the Guided Tour is set to go live on Friday, June 27th. Please email me your written portion and your recommended game selection before the end of Friday. Remember, the write up only needs to be 2 to 3 paragraphs, so don't worry about making it an essay. Please let me know if you need more time. Thanks so much for participating : > TheBlueRogue @Wikia •(profile)•(talk)•(doug@wikia-inc.com) 21:08, June 25, 2014 (UTC)

T3 screenshots Edit

Hey Sxerks, long time no see.

Just a quick note to say I've uploaded a collection of T3 screenshots that I had taken years ago, (many of which found their way into articles I updated) please download it and use it to build the T3 coverage on the Thief Wiki.

Best of luck, Tom Jenkins (Reply) 09:50, July 11, 2014 (UTC)

Good to see you again Tom! Big McLargeHuge (talk) 22:11, July 11, 2014 (UTC)

Can I use some of these to replace my crude photos of the same things (all credit being attributed to Tom, of course), or should they be made into separate files and the old ones deleted? Fish Preferred (talk) 19:01, July 14, 2014 (UTC)
just upload the ones you can use as a new version, no need to delete anything.--Sxerks (talk) 19:48, July 14, 2014 (UTC)
Fish, I don't need or want any credit for any of the images. Please say you took them yourself if you'd like to! But add them in and improve the sparse T3 coverage on the wiki! Good luck! -- Tom Jenkins (Reply) 09:32, July 17, 2014 (UTC)

What liscencing tag should be used for the rest of these images? Fish Preferred (talk) 21:52, July 14, 2014 (UTC)

If they are from the game "fair use", which is what you normally use unless you personally create it.--Sxerks (talk) 04:35, July 15, 2014 (UTC)
I made a guide to capture screenshots. You moved it into the forum, can you keep it as a page on the main wiki and link to it from somewhere important so contributors can see the guide? -- Tom Jenkins (Reply) 23:23, July 20, 2014 (UTC)
No, it's not an article. Can it be linked somewhere? I don't know, maybe somewhere on the main T1, T2, T3 articles?--Sxerks (talk) 01:51, July 21, 2014 (UTC)

Congratulations Sxerks on your wiki reaching gold status. It's been a very long run for you, i've never seen a founder stick with his wiki for so long. I honestly mean it when saying that you are a true inspiration to the wikia community. ReichMuskrat15 (talk) 05:17, July 22, 2014 (UTC)
